So, the secret of ‘The Domain Name Secret’ is SUBDOMAINS. Subdomains are the part of a url that is to the left of a domain name. Examples will help.
Take:
william.is-my-friend.com
As an example.
‘william’ would be a subdomain of the domain ‘is-my-friend.com’.
When picking out a domain name, most people do not think in terms of subdomains. My suggestion to you is that you begin to think of domains that work well with subdomains.
Imagine you were in the pet training niche. Think how far you could go with a domain name like:
can-learn-quickly.com
Using subdomains, you now have the ability to create hundreds of great urls like:
horses.can-learn-quickly.com
labradors.can-learn-quickly.com
etc.
This domain name may be taken by the time you get here. And you weren’t in that niche anyway. Use your imagination and you can find domain names that work well with subdomains for whatever area you are in.
Your web hosting company should be able to provide you with subdomain names. Be careful. Some companies charge a lot of money for subdomains. Others let you have hundreds for the same fee you are already paying.
I use 1and1.com. They will give you 200 subdomains and 2 domain names plus webhosting for multiple site starting at $2.50 US / month. That is far and away the deal I have seen.
